DESCRIPTION:Join us for a cozy story time to get ready for bed. Then\, leave your stuffed animals to a silly night of sleeping over at the library! \nParticipants will get a booklet the next day showing all the silly things their stuffed friend got into. \nAny stuffed animals who come for story time do not have to stay for the sleepover if their family does not want them to. DESCRIPTION:Have you ever heard of plain language? Plain language is a style of writing that is accessible and easy to understand. Join the Delaware Network for Excellence in Autism (DNEA) for a one-hour training to learn about plain language and basic tips you can use to make your writing more accessible. This workshop is open to anyone looking for ways to write and communicate more effectively. This training is designed for all community members. For example this may include\, but is not limited to\, people with autism\, their families\, healthcare providers\, first responders\, direct support professionals\, and early childhood professionals. \nParticipants will need to complete zoom registration to log-in to the training.  \nParticipants will be emailed log-in information and training details approximately 48 hours before the training date. Please check the email you used to register and/or your JUNK mail if you do not find the confirmation in your inbox. SUMMARY:Orpheus Collar Presents "Middle Schoolers with Swords: A look back with Orpheus Collar"
DESCRIPTION:Orpheus Collar is a New York Times Best-Selling Graphic Novelist known for his all-ages graphic adaptations of the Greek Mythology-focused Percy Jackson series\, now a show on Disney+\, the Roman Mythology-focused Heroes of Olympus series\, and the Egyptian Mythology-focused Kane Chronicles trilogy\, all adapted from the original novels by Rick Riordan and sharing the throughline that at some point\, a middle schooler with mythical parentage picks up a sword to fight monsters. \nPresenting a look back at the imagery of the books and how they were made\, Orpheus shows off visits from around the world searching for the mythological origins in places like Egypt\, Greece\, and Rome in preparation for his graphic novels\, and the role archeology and sketching from life aids and informs his process creating vivid graphic fantasy stories. Audiences will be provided with paper to sketch on and are encouraged to draw along and doodle themselves. In addition to the slide presentation\, Orpheus will demo any requests for drawings as part of the presentation and will be available to sign books or provide signed bookplates for attendees who would like one. \nOutside of graphic novels\, he regularly works as a visual consultant for film and tv\, contributing storyboards and designs to Advertisements you’ve seen\, TV shows and Music videos you may have seen\, and Movies you’ll likely never see. This invitational event includes government legislative and administrative policy makers in public health\, nonprofit advocates of health and wellness\, educators\, medical care givers and policy experts\, and academic and medical researchers who are interested or engaged in health disparities\, nutrition\, chronic illness and obesity prevention. It will further serve as an opportunity to close gaps in health inequities\, assess progress\, and further strengthen the work of community stakeholders.

Also\, presentations for parents\, educators\, and librarians will be available.  Keynote speaker Jason Reynolds will add to the many exciting authors you will encounter.  Many literary organizations and resources will have tables as well to enhance literacy up and down the state.  A free lunch is provided for everyone who registers to attend. Since Wikipedia\, an online open-source encyclopedia\, usually appears on Google search results\, Wikipedia is currently one of the world’s most popular websites. It is important to ensure that the information on Wikipedia pages is from reliable sources and is in plain (easier-to-read) language. \nIn honor of the African American Resource Center’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr. Symposium on Social Change\, Penn Libraries is participating in the Network of the National Library of Medicine’s (NNLM) #citeNLM Wikipedia Edit-a-thon initiative to edit health-related Wikipedia pages. Learn how to edit Wikipedia pages using information found on MedlinePlus\, PubMed\, and other credible health websites. \nAt the University of Pennsylvania\, Amanpreet Kaur (Health Literacy Librarian at the Leon Levy Dental Medicine Library) and Jennifer Lege-Matsuura (Medical Research Librarian at the Holman Biotech Commons) created the following training materials: \n\n\nA video \n\n\nSlides \n\n\nA dashboard website \n\n\nThis volunteer activity is asynchronous and can be done throughout the MLK Symposium and beyond.  No prior experience with Wikipedia is necessary. \nInterested in learning more?
